Adrian Newey, the tech chief at Aston Martin, recently highlighted the need for expansion in the team’s aero department to realize its full potential. Despite encountering a promising team at Silverstone, Newey emphasized the importance of increasing the department’s size.
Newey, a former designer for Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, assumed his role at Aston Martin on March 3 with a focus on preparing the team for the 2026 regulations cycle under Lawrence Stroll’s ownership.
Aston Martin, after an initial strong start in 2023, has faced challenges and a disappointing season, culminating in a lackluster performance at the recent Miami Grand Prix, prompting the call for enhanced aero capabilities.
Newey commended the talent and environment at Silverstone but stressed the need for stronger collaboration and depth within the team to compete effectively in Formula 1.
Recognizing the significance of people in driving progress in F1, Newey highlighted the necessity of optimizing Aston Martin’s resources and fostering teamwork to elevate the team’s performance.
